The Murphy Ranch
The Murphy family has ranched in Northwest Colorado for the better part of a hundred years and big game hunting has always been an important part of their life. For the last three decades they have allowed hunting on a limited basis, and during that time have built a solid reputation for quality animals and a near perfect harvest rate.
Many of you may have hunted NW Colorado and already know why elk migrate from the high country to private land. Luckily, the Murphy Ranch doesn’t rely on migrating elk. Their resident herd only expands as the migration occurs. And as an official member of Colorado’s “Ranching for Wildlife Program” they can hunt with rifles from the beginning of September until early November.
The late Lawrence Murphy was proud of his mule deer hunting, and rightly so. While numbers and quality dropped in surrounding areas, his continued to prosper. Sound wildlife management practices along with limited hunting, guaranteed mature bucks during breeding season. This in turn, created a quality gene pool and successful birth rates.
The Murphy ranch is a wonderful place to hunt deer, elk and antelope. It’s down to earth atmosphere is great for family adventures or small groups of hunters that like to see lots of game.
